The beginning

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." This verse gives us the ultimate foundation for the Christian life. The Lord Jesus Christ told us that we should deny ourselves if we want to follow Him and this verse supports His words by reminding us that God must be "in the beginning", that is, He must be first in our thoughts and deeds. This also tells us that God was there before everything began. There is nothing that exists without God or His creative genius and He is completely independent of everything that He has made while everything is completely dependent on Him. God made everything but He has a special purpose for the earth. This verse also defines some Bible words: "God", "beginning", "created", "heavens" and "earth".
