Joshua 19:49–51, “When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them: According to the word of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnathserah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein. These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an end of dividing the country.”
Joshua and Caleb were the only people, who had been slaves, that entered the Promised Land. Caleb claimed his inheritance as the Lord promised but Joshua waited until everyone else had been allocated their inheritance in the Promised Land. Joshua belonged to the tribe of Ephraim so it was proper that he take his inheritance in his own tribal homeland. (Numbers 13:8, 16; 14:6, “Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.”... “These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.”... “And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:”) We can see from this that Joshua had fully satisfied his calling that the Lord gave him.
