The generations of the sons of Noah

“Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.”
This section contains the colophon of Noah’s sons, probably written by Shen because his name appears first. Noah was born before Enos died, and Enos was Adam’s grandson. Shem was able to learn some of his information from his own grandfather and great grand father but he was also an eye witness to the period during which the ark was built and then the Flood came and went away again so we can take his evidence with confidence. We can accept his evidence with much more confidence than we can accept the evidence of people who lived thousands of years later and tell us that these things were written by an unknown person writing at an unknown time.,
