The king's secrets

(The view expressed in this blog are my own and should not be taken as inspired in any way.)
2 Kings 6:8–12, “Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down. And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice. Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel? And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.”

Even though there had been some goodwill between Syria and Israel when Naaman suffered from leprosy, the Syrians followed their usual pattern, after a while and went to war with Israel again. Throughout all of this ancient period, all over the world, nations went to war with each other so that they could subjugate other people and obtain slaves. The king of Syria held special councils with his senior military staff from time to time and planned ambushes and raids. Whenever he did this, the Lord would let Elisha know what was happening and Elisha told the king of Israel so that his armies would be prepared and the attacks and ambushes failed. Before long the king of Syria thought that there was a traitor among his inner advisors and tried to find out who was causing all the trouble. One of the advisors told the king that the Lord was giving the kings secrets to Elisha the prophet. The Lord was working in the king of Israel’s heart to bring him to a place where he would submit to the Lord and return to the true God of heaven, the Lord God of Israel.
