David's last words

(The view expressed in this blog are my own and should not be taken as inspired in any way.)
2 Samuel 23:1–7, “Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain. Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow. But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands: But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.”

David wrote his last psalm towards the end of his life. He was the youngest son of Jesse who had become the most important man in Israel. The Lord anointed David as the king of Israel. He was the great singer and composer of songs of praise to the Lord in Israel. He was always ready to praise the Lord and to bring the Lord’s message to Israel. The Lord told David that any man who wanted to rule over other men had to be just and fear the Lord. As just man is one who, first and foremost, obeys the Lord in all things. This governs every other thing that he does. David understood that no man was completely just before the Lord God because all men have a sinful heritage and all men choose to sin at some stage in their lives. However, the Lord is gracious and will count a man as just if that man believes the Lord and obeys the Lord. On the other hand, men of Belial, that is men who serve other gods and encourage other people to serve other gods, will be forced to go away from the Lord and they are destined for the eternal fire, that is, the fire that burns forever and does not consume.
