Solomon reigned

Would you like to read James McNaught’s novel Sinking Sand”? click here: Sinking Sand
(The view expressed in this blog are my own and should not be taken as inspired in any way.)
1 Kings 4:20–28, “Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry. And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life. And Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal, Ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallowdeer, and fatted fowl. For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.  And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon. And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon’s table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing. Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.”

Solomon asked the Lord for wisdom and the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, wealth, military strength and power over his enemies. This was readily apparent and everyone could see what the Lord had done for Solomon. The kingdom was large and they ruled all the way from the border of Egypt to the Euphrates River. Solomon has such a large army and civil service that he had to feed them with large amounts of food. Everyone was afraid of Solomon so no one was willing to attack him and test his strength. On the other hand, Solomon didn’t go down to attack Egypt for the Lord had given that land to them and he was forbidden from going back to Egypt. Everyone in Israel was secure and prosperous under the Lord’s goodness. For it was due to the Lord’s willingness to keep his part of the contract as long as Israel kept their part of the contract that allowed them to be so successful during that time. Not only were there provisions for the people but also for all their domestic animals as well.
