How big is your God?

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

If man is made in God’s own image and the Lord asked us to be His agents on the earth then there are certain obligations that we have to satisfy. Being restricted in time and space we cannot do the job as well as God can do so we are commanded to multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it. We are also commanded to to have dominion over all the living things that move. This means that we are also expected to remember that God has dominion over us and we are to submit to Him in everything that we do. Human wisdom always goes against God’s wisdom. The people of the earth want to restrict our growth on the earth and they want to stop us from subduing the earth and having dominion over all the animals. Of course, if man evolved from animals then the story is different because we don’t want to be too unkind to our relatives. If God created us then the story is different, we must remember that our God is God and we have to serve Him. Do we really believe that our God cannot supply our needs? If our God is absolutely powerful and completely wise then let’s just trust Him for everything and show our trust by obeying Him. Not to earn His pleasure but because He deserves it.
